Rule #7: Stand By Your Team

Once you've built the right team, make sure that each member of that team knows that you support them, that you value them, and are there for them. Don't build a team of "yes men", stay away from a team of the same personalities (unless they are clones), don't micromanage and try to control every action and decision, don't build a team where talents and skills overlap.
Instead look for team members who have Integrity, Honesty, Great Communication Skills, Resilience, who Share Mission and Sense of Purpose.
Trust your team, you're only as good as they are. Continue to inspire your team, allow them to be creative, efficient, cohesive. Put together your staff then get out of the way, trust in your ability to pick a winning team. And don't hesitate to let someone go who is affecting the team as a whole.

So, today started off fairly normal...Troop inspections:
Communicators working...Blasters functioning...Clones not too short...etc.

I was presented with a Letterman's Jacket by the local High School:

Everything was looking good...

Then it happened...

TK-069's uniform was brought to my attention: *SIGH , I like to be open minded and I'm all for self expression, but this sort of disruption had to be dealt with ... FIRED!

Rule #6: Outsource when Necessary

Outsourcing is often viewed as involving the contracting out of a business function - commonly one previously performed in-house - to an external provider.
Some considerations to think about:
  • Is the vendor capable of carrying out the task?

  • Are your needs like other projects already accomplished by the vendor?

  • Does the vendor have the necessary qualifications and equipment for my task?

Rule #5: Hold regular meetings

Met with the board today...it's good to make sure that everyone is on the same page. It is of vital importance to make sure that my vision and goals are understood and that each manager knows what is expected of them on a daily basis in order to achieve those goals.

I also watched "Undercover Boss"....hmmmm

Rule #4: Assess and Eliminate any Potential Setbacks

  • Vulnerability is a weakness that could be used to cause harm
  • Threat is anything that actually causes harm
  • Risk is the likelihood that the harm will occur
Put another way, risk is the chance that a threat will attack or exploit a vulnerability.

Rule #3: Be a Mentor

Mentoring gives you the extraordinary opportunity to facilitate a protege's personal and professional growth by sharing knowledge you learned through years of experience. While the primary intent of your mentoring role is to challenge the protege to think in new and different ways, the protege is not the only one who gains from the arrangement.
